I know that airsoft guns are not real guns. But I'm considering on purchasing an airsoft sniper rifle for target practice in my back yard. I would consider on purchasing a .22LR rifle, but I live in a rural residential area with a major highway behind my back yard.
So, what does OT have for suggestions for airsoft rifles in general, preferably under $150.

    Get a bb/pellet gun. Airsoft != accuracy.

It certainly can be. You can get copper coated .50g 6mm bbs and have a gun that shoots them 500+ fps purely under piston spring power.

I lack a sub, har har.
Also, the rifles that I'm considering can shoot 450-500FPS with .2g 6mm bb's.

    A BB gun.

500fps is damned slow for a BB gun.

Get one of those break barrel 1000 fps pellet rifles. They're like $100ish at walmart.

Except its modeled after a real world firearm. So its not really the same thing.

Good point, it's much more tacticool to use a weapon look-a-like to practice with while in your back yard. :hsugh:

Who said anything about being tacticool? If you owned a Remington 700, and wanted to practice in your backyard without endangering others or pissing your neighbors off, wouldnt you want to use a BB gun that was modeled after your real firearm? Don't be a toolbag.

Better to use an airsoft pistol to practice draw with than to use a loaded firearm and accidentally shoot your wife.

I have shot a pretty accurate bolt action airsoft rifle. It could reliably hit a paper plate at 100 ft or so...it shoots further but accuracy drops a good bit.

It was called a BAR-10 or something similar and costs around 100 or so bucks. I think the key to accuracy is using .2 gram or heavier quality BB's with the guns that shoot harder (not the shit they carry at walmart, dicks etc).

I will also say that I would not consider it practicing for shooting real firearms...sure, they handle like real firearms and can be pretty fun to shoot but thats where the similarity ends. Shooting a bolt action airsoft is not a substitute for range time with your .223, .308, .30-06 or whatever

I understand that wholly. Again, I would purchase a small caliber rifle but due to the backyard location, shooting an ACTUAL rifle would be out of the question.
EDIT: Also I think you have the JG BAR 10? http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_in...=2493&osCsid=e094737d31ae5e41823e9625b554172b

Yep, I am pretty sure that is what I shot. I'm not 100% because it belonged to a college friend but I remember thinking BAR?...that's not a BAR lol

    How old are you?

If you own your property, and don't live with your parents, and really do live in a rural area. Get the fucking .22 and put a dirt back stop up at then end of your property.

But, since you are considering airsoft instead of just driving to a range, or even the middle of no where, to shoot. I'll guess you are probably 13.

I appreciate the hate for airsoft (it was fun when I was 12), but all flaming aside, it DOES have some benefits. Practicing your draw (as already mentioned) is one of them.
