after watching some Air Soft video reviews on youtube, i ask myself. Wtf is the point?

i mean, they cost almost as much as a .22 pistol, why the hell would you waste your time/money on stuff like that?

and if the answer is: "so we can play war" or some shit like that, go find yourself a field, some nerds and L.A.R.P. :ugh:

LOL, I love that reviewer's condescending attitude.

"*smacks lip* you kiddies out there who never shot a blow back gun..."

    2mins later...

*proceeds to yank the hell out of a trigger on a gun with no recoil*

Ultimately 2 or 3 people joined the thread and backed me up on the use of airsoft for training. Then other people who crucified me, used google and found the err of their ways.

I think airsoft for force on force training is cool, but anything else is kind of silly. But what do I care what people spend their money on.

You can't really shoot your buddy with a .22 pistol an laugh it off.

Well you could laugh it off, but your buddy would probably have different feelings.

I think paintball would be better force on force than airsoft. Simunitions would be the most realistic.

    How?

How would you run malfunction drills, you couldnt draw from concealment in a holster, you cant practice reloads.

Airsoft is fun when done right. Find an old house or office building to play in and do some mock raids. :dunno:

All of those things could be practiced elsewhere. To me the big thing of force on force would be engagement (snap shooting, lean outs, pop ups, lane shooting, suppressive fire) and the "real" use of cover. For malfuntion drills, draw from concealment, reloads, etc you can get way more practice doing that from uspsa/idpa matches.

simunitions are the most realistic. And also far and away the most expensive. Airsoft is cheap, and also uses "guns" that look and sorta act like the real ones, whereas paintball guns look very different.

Sims would be nice, but it's a rare department or bunch of people who can afford to do a lot of serious training with them.

IMO as a former "airsofter" (I work at an airsoft retailer) I have to say that airsoft loses its fun after about 3 "skirmishes". I sold almost all of my airsoft stuff. I do however think they they would be good for training purposes.

By training, I don't mean function training. You cannot simulate malfunctions or reloads, as dropping the mag would damage it severely.

By training, I mean like disarming an armed assailant. You can use a cheap spring gun and disarm the supposed assailant and have a projectile that will pinch you a bit, adds to the realism as you still dont want to get shot by one of these things at point blank range.

Force on force is another good way to utilize airsoft. Working at the airsoft retailer has told me that many law enforcement agencies use airsoft for training purposes. Sure they have simunitions, but those are costly. You can get 5000 rounds of BBs for $12. That will last you a good while. Assuming you are wearing proper eye and face protection, you can simulate raids and assaults, or ambushes without fear of injuring anyone and the guns themselves are replicated quite well.
