I'm going on a few trips here in the near future and i want to take my camera (XTi) and Lens (70-200F/4L). Now do you "pros" check your cameras or take them as "carry on" I can not afford to loose them (the air ports never do that  ) Or have it get damaged in flight. how much hassel does security give you if you want to carry them?

    Thanks
    Ken

I wouldnt think they would hassle you since its not any type of liquid. I would definitely take it with me on the plane if I were traveling.

I fly fequently ad would NEVER NEVER NEVER think about checking my equipment. I grew up surrounded by pilots and FAA (and still am) and just would rather carry-on. I also have never recieved any trouble for a camera bag completely full, including my laptop.

I would never even THINK of checking my camera bag, ever

I've gone through different airports all over the world with my bag packed with camera stuff and no one has said anything about it

My cousin used to work as one of the people who loads baggage onto the airplanes. He used to get sooo much stuff because most people didnt lock their bags. Most the time they just chuck them into the plan/conveyor belt. Never EVER put anything fragile in your luggage, especially equipment thats $$$$

I would think with the way baggage is handled, I wouldn't ever check my stuff in.

Depends on the size of your camera bag. You get 1 carry on, 1 bag of photographic equipment and 1 personal item.

carry it on. but, be warned sometimes they ask you to snap pictures to prove its a camera. they made me pull out my 70-200 2.8 IS and snap pics to show that it wasnt a metal cylinder filled with drugs or a bomb.

I flew across the country last week and carried it with me on the plane both ways and no one said anything at multiple checkpoints.
