I'm going to be going to an air show next weekend and was curious if you guys could give me some tips or anything :x:

I have an XTi and the kit lens and a 55-200mm lens.. Won't have anything new before the show, so it's what I have to work with.

    Thanks in advance :)

If your objective is to get decent photos of the planes actually flying, you're probably better off not bringing your camera and just enjoying the show. 200mm just isn't enough reach. You could bring it and maybe get some pictures of whole formations, but even then you'd probably have to crop.

I just don't understand the appeal of taking photos of airplanes.

Nope 200mm is nowhere near long enough to take pictures at an airshow. You need at least a 1200mm f5.6

    Thanks :bigthumb:

It's really not too hard. Hopefully it will be cold. That makes a big difference.

I have a 100-400 coming in on the 11th. I don't know if it's too late for your needs, but I can ship to you then.

We have a Sigma 120-300 and Sigma 50-500 also available for shipping tomorrow. That would get to you by Friday. The Bigma is probably your best choice, and much much more reach than the kit you have. Just a suggestion and kind of a shameless plug too.

That's freaking  I went to the Rose Bowl a few years back and got a pic of a stealth bomber flyby over the stadium with a Canon G2. Something like 3x optical zoom. I would think a 200mm would be just fine.
