Not sure if this is the best place to post this but I'm looking into getting an air purifier.

It seems as if Sharper Image is selling a ton of these (for a ton of $$) and was wondering if anyone know of decent priced alternatives?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Have you ever smelled the air when someone is arc welding? The reason is because thats what it makes the air smell like.

Yeah, they work, to an extent. You can see that they're working when you go to clean them. There's a good amount of dust and whatnot that comes off. IMO, they're not worth it. They make the air smell weird and don't clean all that much from the air. You're better off putting a good (like 3M) filter on your home's air system if possible.

The Ionizers (sharper image) are definitely overpriced. I've got two of them (given to me..didn't buy them). They definitely work... I mean before I had the air cleaners, my bathroom and entire bedroom would smell like kitty litter, now, I don't even notice it..that is unless he just plopped down a fresh one. Anyway, whoever suggested a nice 3M filter on your home ventilation system has the right idea...

But to compare the 2, why is Hepa better than Ionic?
I dislike the idea of having to replace filters.

Ionic smells.. everytime you invite people over to your house and they ask about the smell, you're gonna have explain to em it's your air purifier lol ...OR you could get a hepa which is the tested and true product..anyways, do what you'd like, it's your money

Buy an Oreck XL Professional air purifier. I bough one a month ago and it uses the same technology as the Ionic Breeze except there's no smell. Just clean fresh air.

So instead of getting the gf one, I got one for myself.
I got the Hamilton Beach HEPA one.

Still not sure what it does.
