but no, i get suck in the mojave desert. I guess i have to just suck it up and do my best. Anybody at Edwards or been there before? is the base any good? is this where they have all the UFO's at? :noes:

You should be extremely thankful you even got something that was on your dream sheet.

iirc, at least from my tech school - everyone got fucked, not one person went anywhere remotely near where they wanted to go.

In other words, shut teh fug up, Edwards is an excellent base.

i would really think about dropping my contract if i was in SD, i had to goto my FTU around there...it was horrid.

I'm sure Edwards is a great base, but i still wish could stay in Texas... also hear I won’t get to change my base much, in fact I have meet 62EXE’s who have stayed at one base their whole careers, so I might not have another PCS to look forward to.

It's really not that bad of a base. Close to LA bout' an hour half drive and three hours from vegas. It's actually not that bad. It could be worse i guess :o . But um what is it that you do.

Exactly, I'm stuck in South Dakota for the next 2 1/2 years. I'm volunteering for every TDY that comes through my shop to help keep me sane. Right now I'm in Vegas

My dream sheet was various stateside bases, but I got orders to Turkey. Thankfully, I got with OSI so that canceled those orders. :o

    the dream sheet is worthless...

i didn't even fill it, my job is limited in location i guess.

the only reason Edwards AFB was on it was so i would be sent there before Wright Patterson :cring:

so at least i didn’t get WP afb.

also after talking to a few people in my job, they told me that they didn't change base locations much, i meet a major who spent his whole career in LA afb.

so i might be stuck in Edwards for a while. I’m thinking i'm just going to do my 4 and out.

    I’m a developmental electrical engineer (62EXE)

I always hear horror stories about this...but I got lucky. Out of Nuke school I got my first choice, but 2nd ship type. I wanted a LA Class in Pearl Harbor, followed by a Sturgeon in Pearl Harbor, followed by a LA in San Diego, and finally a Boomer in Bremerton....I got a Sturgeon in Pearl. I was pretty happy.

stay on base or live on base?

you obviously do not have to stay on base, you're more than welcome to go out on the local economy when you're off duty. Living off base is a different story. Each branch, and in many cases duty stations have different rules regarding allowing their enlisted members to live off base.

Be glad you didn't get Pope. If they hold your dream sheet up to the light and the grain of the paper looks even remotely like it says Pope, you would be here. And you will NEVER LEAVE!! I know guys who did 20 here. Tried to get overseas, applied for extended long tours to anywhere, where did they go?? Nowhere, just Pope.

what's wrong at Pope? if they finish their contract, wait a couple years before signing a new contract, would they get a diferent base?

Filling out a dreamsheet was pointless for me.
My first duty station changed twice while I was in Tech School and I ended in the backwoods of Missouri.

I learned how to play Hearts and Spades like champ!
