I have a few questions about the Air force Reserves, and would like to hear from any fellow OTers that serve/served in the AF Reserves...

Well about me, I am a 21, male and live in Miami, Florida and thinking of the AF Reserves. I have the AF Homestead ARB in my area. I am about to complete my AA degree at Miami-Dade College in Criminal Justice. And I am planning to continue to further my education.
I have zero experience in any military and dont really much know much about it. I have friends that serve in other military branches. I have no friend in the air force but do have one that is married to one, and thinks that this is the best thing for me.

    Questions:
    1. When I sign for reserve and pick Homestead to be my base, can or will they ever move me without my consent?

    2. In the reserve, will I see any action or have to see any?

    3. In your opinon, Best job in the AF reserve?

    4. Pay grade? (in a civilan understanding)

    5. How to become a officer in the reserve?(mind you that I have no military exp.) Or how do you rank up?

    6. The goods or bads of part time of full time.

These just a few questions that come to mind. ANY good input at all is appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.:)
    God Bless our Troops.

BTW I still have not taken the ASVAB....
And The job I was thinking about in the AF reserve would be Air Traffic Control. Reason being that I already passed the FAA test for ATC but I am on a HUGE waiting list:ugh: If not that something with AF police...

it all depends if Homestead has the job you want and if there is any jobs available there. my friend went in as a nurse or something and her base is up by Niagra Falls. there's a few bases closer but no luck for her.

How hard is the aptitude test?

What are some good jobs to take that have real world value?

Im a licensed electrician will that help me any in any selected job?

Have any of you guys gone overseas?

No you cannot be PCSed for anything other than training

Be ready to activate or deploy

    Pilot

what is you question, ususally people graudate as at least an E-2 (Airman)

Get a Bachelors degree comission into a exec job or something like that

Well Guard/Reserve is part time so a downside is having 2 jobs I suppose.

I spent the last 7 years of my life working in the elements as an electrician. I like it but i want a more steady career. I wouldnt mind trying a office type setting but i know little about that world thats why im kinda lost in where to look.

Glad I searched. Local law enforcement hiring sucks, I want a job that's not in an office. I have a bachelors degree.

My friend in the Air Force has mentioned a couple times that Load Master can be a sweet gig.

Problem with that is it probably involves math and calculations, not my strong point.

Then there's something like Aerial Gunner (Helicopter) that just sounds badass:

I'm assuming I'd qualify for the starting pay which is bout 37K for both positions. Not baller by OT standards but it's more than I made in my longest tenure, full time job. It seems these are just apps to collect names but what are your thoughts on these sort of positions?

I knew a career reservist who did nothing but cross train. He would do the minimum time then cross train to another career field.
