    I was curious about joining the Air Force. im curious how to join. i want to know my best options, currently i have 5 years of IT-related experience and a bachelors. would like to maximize my income, knowledge and make the transition to military life easier. any pointers? im based in austin, near san antonio and i believe the air force has a base where they train in san antonio (1.5hr away). i wouldnt mind going to some type of military medical school if thats an option or becoming an officer.

    thanks in advance for any pointers!

    I'm tired of working lousy contracts for idiot bosses. Maybe this will give me something secure, with benefits, allow more travel and lead into an career w/ medical school or retirement options so I have my personal reasons there and feel I could transition into the civilian world without a problem.

    Care to share about your experience? How do I join, do I go to a recruiting office? Please give me insight, thanks guys.

    looks like they did go to 8 1/2 weeks of BMT

    if u have a college degree or can get one for free (ie parents, etc) become an officer first, period. dont try the enlisted to officer option.

    just a little heads up, you cant just walk in and be accepted to OTS. its a loooong process that you have to be committed to. and recently with the huge influx of people wanting to get into the military for job security, they can afford to be even more picky than normal.

    edit: took me about 6+ months to get my OCS packet accepted for the army. my enlistment packet ended up being around 4x the size of a normal enlistment packet because of all the extra documentation they required because im an officer candidate.

    for army;
    all school transcripts, asvab scores (yours would be AFOQT scores as well), full medical review, every family member's phone number/address/age/etc, 6 letters of recommendation from "as high in society as possible", full APFT, written narratives, resume, any and ALL run ins with law enforcement, interviews with company commander, battalion XO, and finally a formal interview with a board of officers where they pick apart everything you submitted and either accept or deny your packet. i know im probably missing some stuff, but basically for army OCS my packet is literally a history of my life and why i feel i should be an officer.

    ive been to MEPS 6 times throughout this process and wouldnt wish such a high number of visits on anyone :mamoru:

    lol at people who do not read...

    ok one, go talk to an recruiter office that handles officers. You will have no need to go to Lackland, he has a degree MORANS.

    If you are tired of stupid jobs and bosses then really the military is no place for you.

    Sorry I didn't mean it like that, I was just venting about the last lousy contracts I've been on. The military has other pluses in my book. Are there officers that can post about their enlistment experience? Do you get a sign on bonus these days?

    on second thought, just don't come in thinking that playing WoW and driving a douche car would make you different than the majority of the chair force.

    I think a Jeep Patriot counts. This type normally can be found wearing button down shirts with dragons on them. :bowrofl:
