i am planning on going to San Antonio to get my uniforms, but I’m not sure what I should get. I don’t have much money, and this is going to cost a lot. All I know is I need a full service uniform for now.

Should I just buy the bare essential service uniform to save money right now, or should i try and get everything I’ll need for my career? Also is it cheaper to buy stuff online?

How many blues short sleeves, pants, BDU's, shoes etc, do you'll have anyways, I have no idea how much I will wear what uniform, I’ll be an 62EXE so people tell me I’ll be in blues all the time.

Is it OK for a new guy to wear corfram (always shined) shoes, or I should I just stick to oxfords that I need to shine?

Also how long does it take to get all these uniform and get fit for them?

Any advice y’all can give me about this before I join would be great.

    :)

Ummm, you do know that stuff will all be issued to you at basic training right?

Edit: Saw in another thread you want to be an officer. Don't know the procedures for them.

Do it! They look a hell of a lot better! I bought them the first week in tech school.
Ordering from aafes.com doesn't take too long. I've ordered from there when the bx was out of stock on certain things.

umm I have enough blues that fit me to make one nice looking uniform....
I had some when I was in als but then my buddy was in the class after me and I was going to england so I let him have them...
I always have at least 2-3 sets of bdus plus I keep all my old ones in my bags in case we deploy even though I wont use them its just for exercise shit
since im CE and well thats what we do

I even have DCUs all sewn up from previous deployments....

kellac.com will sell you uniforms all sewn up minus the squadron badge

First things first -- you can purchase your current cadet uniforms from the detachment at a 50% discount -- get new ones too, you're allowed.

get 2 sets of BDU's, about a dozen black shirts
about a dozen comfy black socks. $10/pair, good ones. you'll thank yourself later.
get some comfy boots, remember $$$ -- we're getting new uniforms soon.
one class A top, two bottoms, 2 short sleeve, 1 long sleeve shirts. two-three sets of the less expensvie exchange select ranks. extra gold bars, two hats for each uniform --- you'll lose or forget it. nice to have a spare in the car/office.
Mess dress is required -- but no Lt goes and gets it until the NEED it. they're expensive as hell.
    get a set of blues

two sets of PT Uniform shorts/shirts. buy the shorts two sizes bigger than you think you need. 2 pairs of
compression shorts for under the PTU shorts. 1 PTU windbreaker, 1 PTU pants

Officers and officer selects have to purchase all of their own uniforms :hs:

and going to OTS with a reverse fade mark of old stripes won't fly.

they only give us AF uniforms for field training, but i haven’t returned mine yet, so i'll see if i can buy them. that would save a lot of money :eek3:. not to mention they fit me pretty well.

i have about 5 sets of old BDU's just lying around, you think i can get get patches put on them? I really dont want to buy new BDU's when they are phasing them out.

and damn it... mess dress. i really hope i dont need that uniform until i get a few paychecks.

i think my det said they will actually issue me all that.

K, so i'm leaving for randolphe/lackland in the morning. This is my plan:

    Buy:
    - 1 Flight Cap
    - Service Coat
    - Service Pants
    - Service & blue nametag
    - rank, insignia, etc.
    - Tie
    - Long Blues's Shirt
    - Shinny Shoes

hopfully this will be enough just to get commissioned/graduate.
i'll talk to my det about buying my shortselve shirts from them.

I'll be going in the morning, my det said that the clothes store would be open on a saturday.

when you commission you'll get a one time allowance of $500 for uniforms. It won't go very far though.

yeah, i just pulled my old BDU's out. i think they can do the job for now. i've been told that since i am an engineer i will be in blues all the time, but others tell me i'll be in BDU's all the time. so i'm kinda clueless.

anyone know if service covers are ever requried in uniform? or can i just go around always wearing a flight cap?
