I have approx 10 weeks aug 1-12 at ft knox with a mobile training team

any advice on how to train up for this? I am somewhat worried about the 12 mile road march and I think I may tailor my training to that as well as 3-5 mile runs.

Don't run on concrete, save your knees.

  3. I did the 12 mile in 2 hours and 44 minutes with 35lbs in my ruck. I'm sure you can do it in the 3 hours they give you. Just do ruckmarches every week say 3 or 4 miles at the end of the week. Or get on a good military workout program like this one, http://www.teenbodybuilding.com/brent5.htm

As mentioned already don't run on concrete. You shouldn't be running with a ruck during training anyways. It will destroy your knees. I have 3 knees surgeries worth of experience to prove it. An enlongated stride is all you need. You should be able to maintain a 13 - 14 minute a mile pace without running. Ensuring your ruck is properly packed, tightened down, and strapped on is most important. Experiment with the weight and find out where it works best for you. At the end of the day you just need to suck it up and ruck.

Air Assault > Airborne by the way. Anyone can fall out of a plane.

thats kind of what I figured, I try to run every other day, today I went approx 3 1/2 miles and felt fine the whole way. I think endurance training is the way to go for this. as far as other stuff goes though what exercises and areas should I be focusing on

I am 9 lbs overweight according to the army 198 lbs and 5'10" (should be 189 or less) my PT scores are decent but not outstanding 63 pushups, 83 situps and 1430 ish lately on the run but i should be able to get below 14 again

are pullups part of air assault? what does a typical day consist of? I saw report time for the ruck march is like 0215.. not really looking forward to that but owell its the last day so fuck it.

Pullups are a part of Air Assault, but not a pass/fall requirement. You need to work on pullups and upper body strength though. It will help you in the obstacle course and during the school.

Just don't run. Work on your rucking stride and breathing, fuck the running. I managed to finish 21st out of over 200 entries in the military heavy division of the Bataan Death March without running. I watched the idiots take off running at the start, while I started out on my steady pace, and about mile 15 I had passed almost all of them.

If you want to increase speed and endurance, try combat runs. Sprint, then slow jog, sprint, then slow jog repeat until exhaustion.
