I'm hoping to pick up an M1 Garand in December, I think my father is going to pick up a Carbine.

I'd buy one from the CMP before AIM, in fact I already did.

Is it insanely hard and expensive to find ammo for the carbines?

it's not the much, cabellas sells remington .30 carbine ammo:

    250 - $139 w/ 1 dry storage box
    500 - $259 w/ 1 dry storage boz
    1000 - $489.99 w/ 2 dry storage boxes

not cheap ammo but for rifle ammo it'a pretty much 50 cents a round, not that high :dunno:

judging from the pics, this latest batch from Aim doesn't seem to be in as good as condition as their previous 3(?) batches. I got a '43 underwood from them, prettty nice. my buddy got a national postal meter, also quite nice. Both had bavarian marked trigger assemblies so I suspect they found / imported a bunch from germany.

Bavarian Marked trigger assemblies are not Bavarian Carbines.
