The short answer is that WASRs are the bottom tier AKs. They weren't made from newly manufactured parts most of the time and the quality control is not tight. That's why they're cheap.

Scroll down to the WASR section.

Disclaimer: I have a WASR-2 (5.45). It's a fun, cheap range blaster, but has the occasional glitch.

I guess they sold out of their tantals...

I sure as fuck hope my P6 is at my FFL by this afternoon, because AIM definitely charged my account early this week.

I'd take a used SAR-1 or well built kit gun, over the WASR personally.

That's what I paid ~2 years ago. It was definitely not a top-tier AK.

The additional accessories might make it worthwhile so long as the bayonet is an AK bayonet and not the CETME bayonet mine came with :ugh:

$120 for a WASR2. Guy I bought it from swore the barrel was bent. I straightend the FSB and it shoots fine now. :mamoru:

Heh, my WASR came with a CETME bayonet, too. And mine was $319 out the door. I use the CETME sticker as a spare knife/general purpose tool. Got a K-Bar if I need a good knife.

Oh, and zero problems with my WASR as well, but I had the chance to personally check it over before putting my money on the counter. The first one they pulled off the rack had a bolt that was frozen in place. The second one had canted sights and crappy machining (Dremmelling?) in the mag well. Third one was just fine, and I brought her home. She likes to eat cheap 7.62x39. :)

I paid that for my WASR underfolder, haven't had any problems. Yeah the cost went up, but so has everything else. I remember when you could buy the Yugo SKS's for $89, look at the price now, if you can find one. The guys at AIM aren't trying to screw anybody, good people to deal with. Their warehouse is about 45 minutes from my house, I've visited a few times and they are always great.

That wasn't a jab at you, I just find it very frustrating that AKs cost so much now. $400 for a WASR is rediculous.
