I selected the Apache as the helicopter I will be flying for the Army. It was a tough choice between the Apache and Chinook, but I ultimately went with the Apache due to it's mission. As a lot of you know, prior to being selected for flight school, I was trying to become a Combat Controller until i suffered a shoulder injury. The main reason I wanted to be a CC was for the call for fire and CAS portions of their mission. I will be doing the same type of missions in the Apache, but I will be putting the steel on targets instead of directing the steel. I look forward to my first day strapping into the cockpit and going for a ride.

Oh yeah, my ego multipled 10 fold the second I selected an Apache. Apparently they will issue my arrogant attitude at base supply next week.

    Awesome.

There is no better sound on the radio than the sound of the Apache pilots letting us know that they will be overflying our route while we're outside the wire. Those fuckers are the motherfucking bomb. You'll never hear it when you call us on the radio, but as soon as you state your callsign there will be a shitload of guys on the ground yelling "FUCK YEAH!" and "BRING ON THE FUCKING PAIN NOW, HADJI!" :mamoru:

Seriously. Just the knowledge that you guys are up there is a fucking huge boost. Thanks. Great choice. :bigthumb:

Do you have to have perfect vision to fly a heli or jet? Or can you have glasses/contacts?

Mission was the deciding factor, but seating arrangement and aircraft configuration played an important part also.

Yeah, being able to support the ground guys in rough times will make the job very rewarding.

I have been in 10+ years, and yes I have "perfect" eye sight. Eye sight does not have to be perfect to apply for the Army WOFT program.

Have 20/50 distant visual acuity, correctable with spectacles to 20/20, also note there is an Aeromedical refractive error exception to policy (LASIK/PRK information).
