I tried getting into AoE3 twice and the AI is such dogshit and the style is totally different than what it used to be. Does anyone else notice that modern RTS games look too cartoony and really simple compared to older ones? The C&C ones especially. old C&C games from Westwood were very gritty, and the new ones since EA has bought them out have been bright colors, cartoony, and units look extremely out of proportion

AoE - RoR. The only right answer.

I love the gritty-2d like RTS. I hate more modern RTS.
Stronghold, old C&C's, Starcraft, AoE... :naughty:

completely agree. It seemed to all start with Warcraft 3. I was looking forward to that game so fucking much and when i first saw a screenshot I was pretty disappointed. They should have made it look more like Warcraft 2. It felt way too kiddy, like the units were puppets or something.

I played with the campaign editor in 2 so much. I would just make these badass heroes fight off hordes of foreign armies.

EXACTLY!! Games seem so childish nowadays. I just played through Homeworld 2 again and nothing is like that anymore. I've played so many games that are too easy, and the only way they make it difficult is to artificially make it impossible. Not many of these games are challenging or require thinking. Most games nowadays are made to accommodate the lowest common denominator.

I was so used to playing easy games that I lost my edge and had to replay the harder levels more than once to beat them

i never, ever, ever, ever win ever. still kinda fun though

i like the warcraft series more though

i played aoe3 and got pretty far I guess, but I like the first two way more. the 3D graphics didn't improve a damn thing :o

I was too young and impatient to ever learn how to learn those cause and effect tools anyways.

:werd: I never bothered with the storyline in any AoE for some reason. I just wanted to play skirmish. Every skirmish would last ~15 hours though:bowdown:
