I think I read on here that the legal age to purchase rifle has been bumped up to 21. If this is true can I get a link to verify this? I'm in VA if that matters.

    18 for a rifle.

Though I believe you now have to be 21 to purchase stripped AR-15 lowers.

You are in the clear, there's no age limit on firearms gift. Laws are only for purchasing.

Just make sure you do the proper transfer of ownership or it becomes a straw purchase.

Transfer of ownership? Most states don't have gun registration. As long as it's a gift, there is nothing required.

    .

As long as this is a surprise gift you should be okay. If he asked for a lower for xmas that can be viewed as a straw purchase. Yes, it is gay.:greddy:

Happened a few months ago. Since technically stripped AR lowers can be converted to "pistols".

fucking retarded, ATF is full of morons.

Just to clarify, lowers should have always been being sold/transferred to those over 21. A receiver is neither a rifle or a shotgun and the law is written that only rifles and shotguns can be sold/transferred to people between 18-21. The "loophole" before was that the 4473 had no space for "other" firearms so they would get put listed as whatever you wanted. This is not a new rule, someone just noticed that it was being bypassed and changed the form so it could be enforced.

Yes it sucks for those of you under 21, but be glad you got away with it for as long as you did.

Don't get me wrong, it makes sense (sadly). And I did remember hearing about that a while back but I didn't know if it was fact or fiction.

Doesn't affect me personally but leave it to the ATF to fuck something up.
