To start, this is no shit so fuck all the haters! I have been hounding my command to get me somewhere, anywhere, so I could get some action. I'm a combat photographer and when in the rear I tend to go stir crazy. I was slated to leave for Iraq in a couple weeks, then I get a bomb dropped in my lap so to speak. They want to send me out with Division instead, in Afghanistan. At first I was elated, then I got the mother of all emails. The GySgt I will be reporting to tells me "you better have your shit together, we're out of beds in the hospital". This isnt my first combat tour, but it has given me a moment of pause. Anyone here been, with Infantry specifically? I dont want the perspective of an Admin POG that never went outside the wire. I will be with an Infantry unit exclusively, no real down time to speak of really. I know the altitude is a mother fucker, and that you hump everywhere you go. I also know that it will be getting cold as shit when I get there. Beyond that I am delving into something completely different. I dont think I can take my Iraq experiences and compare them to the Afghanistan mountains.Any must have items to take along aside from the norm? I appreciate all positive feedback!
