    Now that school is over for the summer I can start taking the BJJ classes at my gym. I don't plan on competing, I'm just taking the courses for personal enjoyment. I'm a broke ass college student so I need something affordable but won't fall apart on me in 2 months.
    My gym sells this gi and they claim it is tough but I have no clue about how it would hold up in training, I'm a complete BJJ noob.

    Knuckle Up Gi

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    if you dont care that much, then it doesnt matter that much. almost any gi is going to last you about a year. and thats more than enough for you.

    just dont get double weaves, because theyre too thick to move.

    knuckleup was involved in some sketchy shit and trying to scam some people on custom short orders and things like that.

    I think a few other people here have had/heard of shady dealings with them, so maybe you would want to support someone else.

    collars offer an unfair advantage, very difficult to choke with them. also, at least in judo, there are specific requirements for the back stitching which makes it illegal (the way it's done makes it difficult to grip), and there's a certain stiffness the gi is allowed, which HCK's doubles go beyond.

    Our gym usually gets cheaper gi's for new students so it doesn't cost as much for them to start:

    HCK or Fuji

    I came in here to post this. I have just recently started trainging BJJ so I can't help much with gis. However, I really close to every Knuckle Up gym. I have 2 within 10 minutes. They are all crooks. I have a ton of friends who have went there and been VERY unhappy with the experience. And as dengar mentioned, someone posted before about them trying to con someone thousands of dollars in custom gear (I believe it was rash guards}

    Support someone else if you can.

    that knuckle up posted is actually a gameness gi.

    I wear a gameness, I while I would rather have an atama, the gameness does what it's supposed to and it hasn't shown any signs of wear after ~6 months of training.
