    So I am a 3C. 6 Year enlistee.
I know the odds of getting a CJR are slim to none for people in my career field.
    I want to stay in.
I also need a special duty to fill in the box to make Chief.
I put on SSgt in June.
This leaves me with Recruiter, MTL, MTI, and PME Instructor.

Recruiting would be nice right NOW, because of the low manning quotas. What about two years down the road?

MTL would be nice due to the work hours and the different bases that have MTLs. The drawback is the students themselves. Think of basic trainees, set free. If I get stuck at Keesler, I will pull my hair out.

MTI would be nice because of the job satisfaction, mystique of MITs, and I might be able to swing OCS or Medina which would be :bigthumb:

PME Instructor would make me want to choke someone, and you can't. Plus I would have no experience as an NCO to rely on.

I have to make this decision in October. Time to think about it now. I am leaning towards MTI, but I am still gathering information.

    Thoughts? Ideas?

I'd probably go with MTL. Doesn't sound like it would be too hard. Just tell the students what to do and if they don't do it, punish them. If you had no family or hopes of having one soon, then go MTI. Recruiting, kinda set your own hours but will have to deal with the locals where ever you go to.

I'm talking about special duties that look better on paper than others.
Usually that means having some effect on training or enlisting folks.

I would go that or recruiter as second choice

There are other options out there than just MTL, recruiting, etc.

    Ever heard of JCU?

anyway you can get into the AECP program? i don't know the reqs so i can't speak much for it except to say i saw a few of those guys in ROTC and they had life pretty sweet.

i don't know if it counts as special duty (and your AFSC might not qualify), but we had several enlisted troops who worked at our ROTC det. they were able to take classes and a couple were able to discharge, finish school/join ROTC, and commission all within a year. again, i don't know the details of the program, but you did mention possibly seeking a commission so i thought i'd through it out there.

Why don't you cross-train for "right now" to show you can diversify yourself then be a first sgt. later?

fuck being a TI. go with the recruiter. i know you can talk up anything. sure you deal with civvies but you got that charisma that makes you like the golden child. do that cause TI would keep you away from the fam for huge amounts of time.

    edit: lack of spell check.

I imagine a lot of it depends on how disciplined you are, and your people skills stamina. Both of which I think would not be a problem for me.

    Where is your friend located?
