Just got a Canon EOS Digital Rebel and found that more times than not, the built-in flash just won't cut it. :ugh:

Any suggestions on what to look for and where to look? Unforunately options are limited only APO friendly websites that will ship overseas.

    agreed, anything 380ex - 580ex.

You'll have several times the power of the internal flash & the ability to bounce it.

I recomend EX as it will work well with your rebel. Anything EZ or 3rd party and you'll be doing it manually.

I use the 420EX and it does fine for what I do. Dirt cheap, ~ $120-130 used, $140-160 new, USD.

Except that you would want the E-TTL version - if it is a different model.

It also has that retro charm.. (chunky)

I've got the 580ex and 430ex, both are great. The 580 has more controls and the dial on the back is better than the buttons on the 430 (like a rebel with buttons vs a 20d with dial). But if you just want a point and shoot flash you may want to try the 220 or whatever... they're quite inexpensive.
