I've been eyeing this piercing for a while, and recently came across some money that I didn't expect to get, I also have the next 4 days off work, so things just seemed to fall into place. I'm probably going to get it tomorrow afternoon. I'm not supposed to have body jewelry at work, but I can either cover it up(like with a band-aid) or use clear jewelry. I figured i'll probably have to go the band-aid route for at least a month, until it's healed enough to feel safe putting acrylic, or that skin colored stuff in it. I know that this was covered about a month ago, but I searched, and couldn't find the thread.

I've also done a few searches on bmezine, and haven't found any good stories about getting monroes, so I have no idea what to expect. :noes:

I guess any words of advice, or expectations would be comforting, thanks!

yeeks! I got it. Was very not painful. When I got to slave to the needle and parked, I almost turned around and left. Glad I didn't. It's all sparkly, and blue, and, well, swollen. Piercer said that it'll heal like a cross between a tongue piercing, and a lobe piercing, tongue on the inside, lobe on the outside, so I guess I'll see. Photos to come tomorrow probably

Well..im too late for this now but I was going to say that the Monroe is not the kind of piercing you can hide. Once the swelling goes down, it sticks out like a little antennae..pretty obvious. :)

Good luck! Enjoy it! Its my favorite piercing of all of mine.

I work on saturday, and I think he's headed to the viper dyno day to promote his new motorsports forum.

    Here's the photo

I was advised to not switch out for a shorter barbell until 8-10 weeks in. I don't think I'll make it. I'll give it at least 2 weeks. If the swelling is completely gone(i'd imagine it will be) and I'm not having any problems, I'll get a shorter bb, and a flesh colored tip. Worst comes to worst, and I get swelling again, I'll just switch it out for the longer barbell. :)

I have no idea. probably just keep stretching my lobes a bit, and go up another size(to 4 gauge) on my tongue, I suppose.

Or the spiral industrial that i've been eyeing

2 weeks really wont be enough time. Your mouth swells at night and so even if your lip appears totally normal during the day, at night a smaller size barbell will become an issue. I can't tell you how many people have had to come into the studio I go to to get their monroes CUT OUT because they swelled so tight. :hs:

it's finally swollen swollen. The aftercare said only sea salt soaks, but with religiously washing my mouth out with that, and drinking only water, and doing sea salt soaks on the outside, I think it began to get a little infected. It could have just been soggy skin-y stuff, but there was an opaque yellowish substance coming out a little, so I got scared. Washed the outside of it with antibacterial soap, and started rinsing with a mixture of 1 part listerine, 2 parts bottled water. Hopefully this will quell the possibility of infection.

I hope I'm doing this right. The only other piercing I've had done that actually had aftercare(had ears done at the mall when I was 12) was my tongue, but that went off without a hitch.

I agree. The mouthwash mixture is unnessessary. Just stick with the sea salt rinses 3-4 times daily.

my lip has swollen to the point that the ball on the end is halfway sunken into my skin. The inside is fine at least.

is THIS normal. sorry, I'm a worrywart, and if it swells anymore, i'm gonna have to go back to the shop and have them put in a longer barbell
