yeah im a member of at least 20 in which i check everyday and post.
i suffer an online addiction, i won't lie about that shit.
but then again, in some ways its still better than others.
and yet again, in a lot of ways it's not
Everyones go a vice of some sort. Some people eat pills, some drink.......some are addicted to the internet, be it discussion forums, porn, or the encarta...i think that discussion forums arent gonna hurt you. Untill you start slacking in other areas BECAUSE youre addicted.
Wow I thought I was bad since I regularly frequent 4 or 5!
What else do you do? Between working full time, college full time, and my girlfriend...there's no way I'd have time to post at 20 different message boards and keep up with all the new posts. I thought AnandTech moved fast...OT moves so damn fast that you can create a new thread and it's on the 3rd page in 5 minutes.
How ironic this was sitting here while i've wasted the past couple hours just debating on off-topic.
I think this is a good indication i need to get off the computer now...
I belong to over 30 although I only check 5-6 on a daily basis but I wouldnt say I am addicted. Its a matter of being bored throughout the day at work. I have no problem taking week long vacations without checking even my email.
I go on a forum diet every once in a while, cause I have nothing of substasnce to post.
But then I come back and flood the forum, be it this one or other, with comments. But I don't troll or anything.
I'm a new addict-ee. I frequent another forum, but as of late, it has been annoyingly slow. So, I perped out a few others, and thus far this one seems to be of interest. I plan on being vigourously addicted to OT within a few hours! *cheers*
Anyone with a post count of over a few thousand and makes an average of more than 10 posts a day has a serious problem.
I think that includes quite a few members here. The person with the most number of posts, at least from what I've heard, is GOD with over 95,000 and posting on average, 15-20 posts daily.
more like 100 posts per day
According to you. Seriously, its not a dividing line. Thats like saying 6 beers a day makes you an alcoholic... (but 5 doesn't?).
Don't post in this forum if you have nothing of substance to contribute...
^^ Haha. Nuke, seriously though, you have to realize that Denial is going to be a huge stumbling block towards your personal recovery. In any case, why is not helpful to offer a threshold number?
i might have 20,000 posts, and post about 25-30 times a day, but i can quit anytime! honestly! the numbers mean nothing!
In psychology they say an accurate predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Maybe it's time you found a girlfriend?
for the reasons i stated above... any specific threshold does not indicate the guaranteed presence of a problem any more so than it denies the existence of one.
you're completely missing the point. a recovering alcoholic is someone who WANTS to quit and cannot. claiming the ability to quit anytime may or may not be a sign of denial but is surely irrelevant to the initiation of recovery, which is voluntary and explicit desires to quit complicated by an inability to do so.
and be addicted to her?
continued posting of garbage based in your opinion is not welcome here.
^^ You need to lighten up.
I treat this forum and the issue of recovery seriously.
Of course you do. After all, you're one of the two moderators here.
i'm addicted to OT
I go on 4 or 5 boards myself, and the funny thing is I rarely get responses to my posts and I am usually ignored. I'm never a jerk to anyone. I might as well be talking to myself.
im really fucked up. i can sit 18 hours a day infront of my screen (no job right now) and just read what others post online. because of this i have failed out of university and have no drive to do anything in life. my parents are fedup with me and i have become a lazy piece of shit. i dont know what kind of help to get.
