I got it in the "blued" finish, which is *not* the same as black chrome, this finish won't chip like the chrome finishes will since I will actually be shooting this and not putting in a glass case on the wall.

I put pics next to my conceal carry P22 for reference in size

I got the .22 with plans for a gemtech setup

its plenty capable of serving its purpose as a defensive weapon, and its light and compact

I might get the p99 as well, just wanted the p22 to start off small

I'd carry the eagle before I carried a .22lr. I mean why bother if you're carrying an incapable round.

so you'll let me shoot you with a .22LR super sonic hollow point?

11rounds @ 1320fps, how is that not capable?

I won't let you shoot me with a bb gun, that doesn't mean its going to stop a bad guy. If you did, I feel pretty confident I'd live. Do any police organizations shoot a .22? To stop a man you need to either hit a vital portion of the central nervous system, or create a nasty wound that a person will bleed to death from. A .22lr anything is going to create a small unimpressive wound. a ball round will probably have enough penetration to get the vital CNS areas but you're going to have to have some really impressive shot placement. A LHP will make a slightly nastier bleeding friendly wound, but at the expense of the penetration you need. Its better than a sharp stick, but if you're serious enough about defense that you carry there are plenty of options that are practically immeasurably better on any budget. The average I'm seeing for aguila 30gr .22lr is 7.4" and expansion to .38". Skin takes up the first 3" of penetration, so you're going to penetrate 4.4" into the body. Do you trust that you'll not need to go through a forearm, hit a rib, or even be able to get to the spine on most people in that depth?

edit: Forgot to mention, I like the eagle alot. Someday I must have one.

that's what I thought, and thanks Soybomb for all the info, but I still have no hesitation emptying a clip into an attacker. I doubt I'll ever have to, and I'd rather be comfortable carrying the p22 than overly confident/capable carrying something larger (god forbid I get a shoulder holster for the desert eagle)

Nice new addition, I'de seriously look into a different carry piece though, I know 22 can kill just as easy but damn if someones just wearing bulky clothing its gunna affect performance.

When I was picking up my XD I had some guy in the gun store telling me Eagles were the end all of handguns... He was like, "I have 7 of them and they're better than everything else out there. They're all I'll own"

The .22LR super sonic hollow point is the best defense round ever!

there's nothing wrong with having more than one gun, I'm going to acquire several handguns, whichever one I choose to carry, is my decision

there's no right or wrong, and I'm not a police officer, it isn't my job to shoot people

In all fairness it isn't a police officer's job either. Both are shooting in self defense generally with the goal of stopping an attacker as quickly as possible. Now they will have additional concerns to worry about such as shooting through a windshield or car door that you probably won't have but the basic penetration tests of clothed/bare gelatin should be 100% as applicable to you in a defensive shooting as to any law enforcement officer.

We're conditioned through tv and movies to believe that any person upon being shot will immediately drop their gun, clutch their chest, and fall to the ground. In reality though defense shootings often include lots of misses, and what does hit is often poorly placed. Even perfect hits sometimes don't even seem to work immediately. In short, its nothing like the movies and people aren't a quick drop even if you empty a whole magazine from a .22lr. Add in the likely possibility of chemical influence of an attacker and you can have a 250lb animal thats quite difficult to stop.

To me the crux of what Platinum_Thunder is saying is that you've spent alot of money and time picking out some really cool looking guns, but not as much time researching what you really need if the goal is defense and not just a fun cool gun. If you're going to the hassle of carrying, go through the hassle of researching what you carry too, you're literally staking your life on it when you escalate a situation by presenting a handgun.

That felt oddly like a PSA, needs the more you know logo :big grin:

That and a gun is only a tool and is worthless without tactics and mindset. Saying something like a mag full of 22s will put a man down, is not something I would count on. Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. When you buy a gun there is always a compromise IMO. When I bought the Glock, I went with a smaller caliber, but more capacity, wide range of ammo, and I shoot it well. When I bought my SW 642, I sacrificed capacity, but have something that fits in my pocket and I DO carry, instead of something bigger that I don't. Also, pocket revolvers are much harder to shoot dynamically. The one thing I DO have is training to fall back on. I am not the end all shooter by any means. There are probably a billion people that could outshoot me on the range. But on the street verus someone with no training I am much better off.

Get your guns, but you gotta spend the money to get trained or it does no good.
