Girlfriend surprised me with a Tamron 90mm last night. Looks like I need to get used to manual focus. No pics to post up yet, but from the test shots I've taken, this thing is badass.

Huh? Why wouldn't D50 support AF on Tamron? Do you mean your D40 or D60??

Both the body and lens set to AF? Check the switches/tabs.

AF seems to focus on random things making me take longer to compose a shot. i dont see why you guys like it so much

mine focuses on whatever focus point I have selected... For portraits and such, it's very accurate for me, but it is kinda slow...

It hunts in Macro mode, sure, but there isn't a lens that doesn't. That's why everyone in the universe recommends MF for macro work...

But the real reason we like it is because it's the sharpest piece of glass this side of an electron microscope...

well i like to get close, and whatever body i use, and whatever AF point i choose, it always struggles when im near the minimum focus of that lens. from 2 feet on sure it works acceptable.

Thats weird. I haven't noticed anything at all like what you're describing. I'll have to try out some ~2ft shots today...

sucks that you're having a tough time with it though...

built in flash and overcast lighting doesn't make for very good macro shots

I have the 180 and it does take a while to focus if it's on auto. Doesn't help that the Fuji's AF is slow to begin with... I'm manual all the time with that lens.

Here's a robber fly I found at Surf Side just before Ike tore it up...
