Everyone flocks to Google for Adsense, and YPN but is there still room for another ad serving business?

I'm considering this venture since contextual advertising is a HUGE business opportunity that seems to be somewhat untouched by a single person's perspective, but rather a LARGE company.

c'mon, don't forget about adbrite and kontera. :mamoru:

There are a LOT of contextual ad companies out there. It's hard to get exposure when you're standing in Google & YPN's shadow though.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm worried about.

Higher payouts = less net revenue, but I guess that's not something you're supposed to think about when starting out a business :o

Shoe's AuctionAds has inspired me :o

You're going to have to invest quite a bit upfront, and have a large backing by some company, and have a way to create some buzz for the service. If you can do it, more power to ya.

Jeremy had all three of those, and had a great idea.

PS, you still doing those lyric sites?

And yet the site makes $0, since they pay out 100% of the commission back to you. Great business model there.. :ugh:

You're a fucking idiot. Shoe shits $100s, that commision probably doesn't mean anything to him :mamoru:

The new owners definitely have to do some remodeling though ... :mamoru:

higher payouts doesnt need to be your selling point. maybe youre more convenient, maybe you direct deposit into an account every 1st and 15th rather than sending a check 2 months after you reach 100$.

you dont have to base your business model on making less money than the other guy.

I'm sure you could start a specific niche content advertising stuff. i.e. technology contextual ads and seperate yourself from google by a) charging less from advertisers, and giving back more to publishers.

Look at it this way: Say google charges 50 cents per click and gives away 25 cents to the publishers. Charge 40 cents per click, and give away 30 cents to publishers.

Yes you don't have as big of a profit margin as Google, but you are still turning a profit...and who knows get enough publishers and it could make you a decent chunk of money

    No.
Yeah, profit isn't the best thing to aim for as a new business regardless of industry. I'll give it more thought.

i've only seen kontera converting well on certain niche blogs & forums. Tech help ones are usually decent.. but even my best converting kontera site only hit ~$15/day.. Complete waste of time.

I use kontera on my blog. Doesn't hurt or help to have it on there since all it does is highlight keywords that people will hopefully click. I've only made about $8 from 200+ clicks though :hsugh:
