I have a 99 Honda Accord and recently it has been having trouble shifting gears. It is an automatic and when I accellerate from a stop it slams itself into gear and when I stop it slams itself into a stop. I assume it is a transmission problem but I dont know much about car engines. Anyone have any advice?

I think those years were known for transmission problems. I have a 2k Accord and never had a problem

flush the tranny is your only hope.... sounds like you need a new valvebody/torque converter. In other words, you're better off with a new tranny. Have a shop look at it to determine true cause.

I just had a oil and filter change about 5k miles ago. I will take it to a tranny shop to see whats up. I really hope I dont have to buy a new tranny. I had to do that with a Ford Probe and it cost me a shitload!

Take it to the dealer. My '01 tranny died on me two years ago.

How much was it to replace or did you get it covered by warranty?

I do have a 01 Accord V6 and received a letter from American Honda that they're extending the warranty of the transmission to 7 years. And no I don't have any problem right now but it is nice to know that they will fix/replace the tranny if anything goes wrong. Go to the nearest Honda dealership and ask about that.

I might have to take the car up to a Honda dealership to see maybe if they have a recall or an extended warranty. That would be sweet if they did.

the extended warranty was only on the v6 accords... and only of certain years (I think 2000-2002 or 2003)

I was issued an extended warranty because Honda knew about the transmission problem. I forgot which years were included though. :o

the bad tranny is only on the 5spd autos that connected with the v6 enginge, so i dont think it concerns your car.

:ugh: You're talking about the wrong car. The previous generation NEVER had a 5 speed auto. :slap:

I talked to the dealership and their is no recall or extended warranties. The guys did tell me that I could call Honda directly and complain about it. He said since my car has a known transmission problem and if I am firm but polite that they may pay for a new transimission for me. But he told me not to tell anyone he said that!

So this week I get off work and my car wont start. A jump start didnt work so I got it towed. They thought my fuel pump was out so they took it out and then put it back in and my car started back up. Seems like the lines were a little loose or something. Anyway, now my car seems not to be jerking into gear or anything. Is it possible that the fuel pump was causing my car to have what seemed to be tranny problems?
