i want to get ready for summer and have better defined abs. at this point im just trying to perfect my abs as they already are somewhat defined but want to know how to lose the slight fat that i have near the lower abdomen (below the belly button). also how do i lose the love handles - they are very slight but i want to eliminate them..

i know its about cardio and diet.. but what types of cardio and for how long - what types of exercises can i do for my abs to hit those problem areas?

    thanks

Maine, you know as well as I do that doing 19,700 situps is not going to give these people the abs they want.

They need at a minimum 20,000 situps and 5,000 sidebends to see results.

I read love handles for dummies and it said 22,000 situps and only 3,000 sidebends

Question, if you eat to few calories can your body go into starvation mode? My girlfriend keeps telling me this since I am cutting. I eat like 5 times a day work out and play basketball for cardio, I would think all this would keep my metabolism going. but anyone ever experience or hear anything about it?

Naw, all that "metabolism" mumbo jumbo is just from trainers trying to make a quick buck. I'd say just starve yourself and do a lot of cardio. That should do you right.

Generally this happens after eating below 1,000 calories a day for a sustained period of time. I guess it could happen at higher caloric intake if you're a bigger person or you get a bunch of exercise, but I don't think you'll starve yourself without realizing it.

Good rule of thumb is to do it a lot. Every day if you can. Aim for a target heart rate equal to your age multiplied by your max raw bench (ungeared) plus resting heart rate divided by your VO2MAX. That should give you a rough starting point.

Better to eat more and burn more, than to eat less and burn less.

I just bumped my calories back up a bit and tripled my cardio and I'm starting to see results again after being stagnated for a while.
