Well, my professor has convinced me to get a Mac with the education discount (and it can't hurt to have experience with yet another platform).

Anyway, I've narrowed it down to a 15" PB, but is the extra $300 ($1,799 vs $2,099) worth it for a SuperDrive and 170 more Mhz?

Is it worth it to get the extended AppleCare plan?

    :wavey:

I don't know for the size (I choose the 12" :big grin: but it's personal)

the extended applecare is a must buy!

    applecare sucks dick

i suggest going to a compusa that is near you.

you wont get the educational discount, and the warrenty is more, but they fix everything in store and the customer service isnt crap

The nearest Compusa is about 500 miles away so that really isn't an option. Is Applecare really that bad?

Holy shit, another Montanan! What are you studying at Tech? How's the Irish Times? Lots of trim still make their way there?

Anyways, I'm up in Missoula at the U and am actually getting a Powerbook shortly (though in the 12"). I'm not getting the Applecare but am definitely getting the Superdrive but I'd listen to these guys.

get applecare. I can be used worldwide on portables. you don't have to take it to a applestore or send to apple the have a repair done. just find a n apple arothrized repair site and you're good. and go for the speed incease/drive you can't have them added later.

Applecare is a must have for any portable. The thing is that you will get one year of full coverage on your new computer the day you buy it and you can buy Applecare up to the last day of your original warrenty (364 days later). So if you don't have the extra funds for right now, you are still covered and can pick it up later.

It is like buying piece of mind really.

The best thing about Applecare is you can get it anytime in the first year for the same price you were offered when you bought it. We'll get it for our Macs sometime this summer.

I'm in PTC (Professional and Technical Communications :o ) The Irish Times is way to high schooly for me, and a few people get in trouble for taking home the "18+" who are allowed in. :dunno:

I think I'm going to spring the extra 300 and hold off on Applecare until day 364. Thanks Mac Crew!
