100,000 miles, am I going to hate life? Or is a nice upgrade from a 2004 Ford Ranger? I don't have much choice, I can't afford the truck and a friend of a friend is willing to give me the BMW for $2k.

It's a hideous green, and the rims look like ass, is it worth investing money into? I've always loved BMW's and I want this to be a nice project. What are OT's Autohead thoughts? :hsd:

Again, I don't have much choice. So don't tell me to look into different models or anything.

Checked it out in person, runs great A/C works it's just everything is filthy/ sun dried. I'll have to do some treatment on the leather and give it a very thorough bath. The paint is all chipped/sundried too. It's going to need some work to make it look nice but I think it's worth it.

my father has owned both a e34 530i touring and a e34 m5. the touring was very reliable (except for the nicasil thing). the m5 was as well. he hasnt driven the m5 in about a year though

Glad to hear good things about this deal/car, I brought my friend to look at it (who knows more about cars then I do) and he said I should flush out and replace the oil, transmission fluid and coolant. This sound about right? Is there a certain brand or type I should go for?

The 525i is amazingly reliable. Things to look out for are just mainly suspension bushings, the cooling system, and a couple other little issues. The M50 engine it has is one of the most reliable engines BMW has made

I just picked up a 92 525iA for $600 with 190k miles on it, runs flawlessly and the transmission shifts really smoothly.

the rear lower control arm bushings go bad which cause instability when braking. pretty normal

Would it be worth it to replace the tires/rims? They look hideous. Would it up the value when I go to sell it?

The rims? Well you listen to The Flaming Lips, maybe you can have them if I ever upgrade.

buy a used set of wheels/tires. This way when you go to sell the car in 2-3 years, you can turn around and sell the wheels/tires for the same amount you paid for them.

    My dad had a 96 525i.
Probably the most reliable car he has ever had.

Check the egr's and the intake manifolds, totally notorious for cracking.
