I got 85% of the tattoo this past weekend. On 9/3 I am going back to finish it. He quoted me at $300-$400 and when I left that day he said it'll be $350.
Does that cover the whole tattoo or will I need to pay more when I go back?
Also, what's a good tip for a $350 tattoo? He did a great job so far and I couldn't be happier. And do I just hand him $50 or whatever and say here's your tip?

    Thanks.

    :hsugh:

350 is just for that session, you pay session by session. I try to give as much money as I can, so on 350 I wouldve given 75 at the least but probably around 100 or more. Just say "here is 350 and this is for you".

    Pics? :)

I already paid him the $350. I didn't want to tip him then because it's not finished.
He was willing to finish it last weekend, like I said it's 85% done, it was just getting very sore and it's a cover up so with the scar tissue, well to be blunt, it fucking hurt.
    It's a 1/2 sleeve, upper arm.
Pics when it's healed, it's in the itchy phase now :hs:

yeah, i just had a cover up done on tuesday and it was a custom drawing that he drew up for me and ended up hooking me up b/c he had to cancel our previous appt. due to being overrun from an earlier customer so i'm getting everything for $170 when it should be a $400 tattoo at least once we get the color in.
i paid on tuesday for it and i gave him a $40 tip which he seemed shocked about and i should be heading back next tuesday for the coloring which will take about 3 or 4 hours :wtc: but it's all paid for and i'll just end up tipping him again next week some more, not sure how much yet
i usually tip $20 per $100 or what not

bring him/her lunch or dinner, buy them a shirt or something. not every artist will take a tip, but they'll take presents.

my more recent tattoo artist Joe, doesn't often take tips either... the owner of the shop told me that when I went back in when he wasn't there and said "Yeah Joe doesn't like tips, he thinks its tip enough that his work is on your body" ... I'll still tip though, he doesn't expect it like some tattoo artists do (atleast some I've noticed, if they expect it, I don't use them as an artist :o )

my next tattoo I think I'm going to have two artists do at once, just for fun... :o
