AB Workouts Why?

    Why is it whenever I look into ab workouts, they usually specify you should do a specific number of reps for a few sets and they leave it at that? They don't give you any more information on how to keep on progressing as your muscles grow stronger. It seems to me many people work on their abs just for cosmetics [getting a six pack]and once they reach it, they just maintain it instead of increasing abdominal strength. Give me your 2 cents on this please OT.
