A lot of people and few authors over at dragondoor.com praise those things quite a bit. I've used them before, and judging from some of the tension exercises i do for my midsection, whiile in a similar position, i can see them working really well.

you answered your own question. They work. use it in conjunction with other Ab exercizes and there you go.

the problem with the roller for me is i could go all day if my lower back didn't start hurting. it gives out before your abs do, at least in my case.

it's true it is, but i don't think it contributes any more to the development of your abs. it's just more stress on your back. anyone who is looking for this kind of ab motion i think would be much better of doing other ab exercises.

the thing to note about abs is that like any other muscle they need resistance exercises to really develop, so this ab wheel is a step in the right direction due to it's increases resistance over a regular crunch. but for home i'd recommend other ways of adding resistance such as weighted crunches or doing hanging leg raises. at the gym, i'd recommend a whole slew of ab exercises with proper resistance.

you know, you're right. if he's talking about the ab wheel (the wheel with the handles on the side) i stick with my original opinion. if he's talking about the roller (the round cage thing that helps you do crunches) i think it's worthless; if you need assistance doing crunches you suck at life. the whole point in muscle growth is resistance, not assistance.

ive heard the wheel called both,.

if your lowerback is hurting, you need to contract your abs harder and keep it from bending.

crunches (or situps if you're prepping for the military) and leg raises will be fine. If you want to use that thing go for it.
