I go to Fort McArthur in San Pedro (my hometown) they have the smallest exchange ever. I ask where a bigger one was they direct me to LA AFB and that exchange didn't have what I wanted. AF Exchanges are nothing like Navy Exchanges. They don't even cary other branches uniform item. What's up with that :ugh: ?.

depends on where you're stationed...I've seen all service uniforms at a couple different NEX and seen Navy Uniforms at AAFES just depends on the presence of other services on any other base :dunno:

Definitely depends of which AAFES. The one at Ft. Benning only has Army, whereas the one at Ft. Gordon has stuff for all branches except the coasties.

The NEX is pretty big here in SD two floors. They sell brands from Gucci to Apple :hsugh: . AAFES is like KMART in comparison.

Our Exchange carries items for all Branches including Coasties. All I needed was a belt and buckle :hs: .

As a former squid, present soldier...I'll echo DSHR's comments for the most part with the comparison of NEX to AAFES.

Then next time that AAFES tries to take over NEX operations write your congressman / woman and let them know not to allow that to happen (it has to be approved by Congress)

I'm a soldier now, NEX could be taken over via AAFES and turn into a flea market...as long as AAFES doesn't get any worse. :)

Here on the island we have 2 nex's and 2 aafes. NEX definately has much more stuff.

When it comes to uniforms it depends on which branches are at the base. At Ft lee they have army and marines stuff at the clothing sales. At Ft gordon that have all branches because all branches go there for some form of commo training.

The one at Ellington Field is around the same size as the Shopette on main base Barksdale! It does have a class six though:bowdown:

The 2 BXs here on Ft. Bragg suck too. You can get everything they sell cheaper at Wal Mart. Hell, even Best Buy has cheaper electronics than AAFES. Even after including sales tax, usually AAFES is more expensive. Oh, and never put AAFES gas in your car if you want it to run. I swear that stuff is 98% water. NEX is much better, grew up with NEX and was uber pissed when I walked into an AAFES for the first time.

Oh... well since just about everybody I know uses their fuel in EXTREME cold weather and nobody's car has stopped running yet, I'm sure you know what you're talking about. Not to mention that their diesel is actually better because it's less diluted than the competition. I'm not defending AAFES though, because I only go to the shopette and that's to get beer, gas and cigarettes. I get angry just walking into the PX.

I've used their gas a handful of times in my old car. And every time I did it ran like crap, would knock and ping like a mufucka, and got an average of 6-8MPG less than if I bought at the Hess station. Wouldn't know about the diesel, hell, I don't even think the pumps here on Pope have diesel available. But the gas is downright terrible. Maybe they just have a better supplier up by you.

I was stationed at Fort Bragg for 2 years and no problem really (granted I was only there for a year to test out the fuel).

You got lucky then. I actually had a friend of mine who's engine literally got destroyed by their gas. Brand new Liberty, dead. Reason...too much water in the fuel. He literally filled up, got about 2 miles from the pumps, and it died. AAFES had to pay for a new engine.
