i knew i shouldn't have brought my camera shit around my family.

they don't want anything specific - they just want to have a record of their wedding.

i think i'll stick the camera on P mode, and bring the 70-200 & 24-70, and be done with it.

any reason to buy one of those camera "flip" bracket things? I see a lot of wedding photographers (that aren't doing off-camera lighting) using those.

    :dunno:

why they originally came to me with the idea last year, i thought "hey, that'd be fun." ... then i figured they'd just end up getting a "real" photographer. I never thought they'd really ask me.

    :hs:

either way, i'm going to do it because it would kinda be fun, but they don't have a lot of $$, and i'd like to help them out.

seeing some of the reasons people use flash brackets, it kinda makes sense that I should get one (or, at least, have my cousin buy it for me) ... anyone recommend one?

Why do you have a 24-70 and a 70-200, yet when tasked with shooting an event, say you're going to stick your camera in P mode? Why own nice equipment if you don't know how to use it?

maybe he thinks that if it is in P mode he wont miss the shot because he is fumbling with the shutter and aperture

Don't make a big deal out of it dude. Just take pictures while the day goes by.

Get there while the bride is getting ready...take some natural pictures without the flash and poses. If the groom is near, go take some pictures of him getting ready. Again do the same at the church, usually they are lit enough to take pictures without flash and do the same thing. At the end of the ceremony just take few group shots with the flash. Then take them outside and take some pictures of 2 of them together.

If you are comfortable in P mode, do it. If you taking pictures outside, don't be afraid and throw it on Auto. At the church or inside the house do not be afraid to use high iso.

no, i'm not selling shit to my family. he offered some $$, and it would be cool if he bought me a flash bracket, but i don't expect him to.

i plan on taking pics, fucking with them in LR, then giving him a DVD of the good ones. i'll help him with an album if he wants, too.

yeah, i'm not too worried about it. at least i get to not wear a suit to the wedding. ;)

will Auto-ISO work pretty well in this situation? if i'm outside & it's bright, i always use 100-200, but auto wants to switch it to 400. inside if it's dark, i'll see what auto-iso has to say about it
