A spin-off of the popular NG Knight Lamune & 40 series, Knights of Ramune chronicles the adventures of Holy Virgins Parfait and Cacao, as they travel to great distances to look for a chosen warrior to bring balance to the universe. However, things go awry as the warrior they're looking for turns out to be a diabolical being bent on total annihilation. With the aid of a 12-year-old named Lemon, a robotic ball named PQ and a powerful prototype Mecha, Parfait and Cacao must use their Holy Magic powers to save a planet from Ramunes' wrath.

    Story: C
There is supposed to be a story here, but it's detracted by a lot of fan service (read the viewer rating above). At least Maze had story content with its share of T&A.

    Animation: B-
Since it's an OAV, you'd expect high-quality animation. Unfortunately, some parts of the series lack detail and decent frame rate. The mecha designs are all right; they're just a bit plain.

    Soundtrack: B-
Aside from the annoying opening theme, I didn't pay attention to the BGM.

    Sub vs. Dub
Knights of Ramune features Yuko Miyamura (Asuka in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Aisha Clan-Clan in Outlaw Star) as Parfait, Kyoko Hikami (Cyberdoll Sara in Hand Maid May, Masako in Blue Seed) as Cacao, Satomi Korogi (Menchi in Excel Saga, Misuzu in Gasaraki) as PQ, Akiko Yajima (Boushin in Fushigi Yugii, Manami in Jungle de Ikou!) as Lemon, Takeshi Kusao (Trunks in Dragon Ball Z, Parn in Record of Lodoss War) as Ramunes IV, Yuka Imai (Otaru in Saber Marionette J/J to X, Toshio in Burn Up! Excess) as Electone, Rei Takano as Cocktail, Mika Kanai (Tifa in Gundam X, Yumi in Irresponsible Captain Tylor) as Liquor, Maya Okamoto as Tequila, Tomoko Kawakami (Revolutionary Girl Utena, Seeme in Betterman) as Coo, and Naoko Takano (Kaoru in Gate Keepers, Megumi Raynard in Martian Successor Nadesico) as Sue.

(The production staff must've been drunk while they were creating these characters...)

As for the English dub, stay away from it. The voice acting is very poor, not to mention that the voices do not go well with the characters. Besides, the cast list sounds like a bunch of porno stars (i.e. Ruby Seedless, Autumn Harvest, etc.).

    DVD Extras: B+
For a Software Sculptors title, this DVD is pretty loaded. You get a gallery, character sketches, cast list and some trailers. If you have a DVD-ROM drive, you can access higher-resolution images.

    The Bottom Line
Hardcore Lamune fans probably won't like it. Hentai and ecchi fans will want this in their collection. Otherwise, it's a strict rental.
