"A second burst of fire is unleashed 98 seconds after the first. Moments later the pilots are told the truth over the radio.

As they take in the horror, POPOV35 says: “We’re in jail dude”. POPOV36 weeps as they return to base: “God dammit. F*** me dead.” "

What gets me is the pilots asked multiple times if there were any friendlies in the area and they were repeatedly told no.

Roger that. Sounded at the beginning like they were finishing off the job started by artillery.

As much as the situation sucks, and as horrible as it is that friendlies were killed in this, it's a war. Friendly fire has been a fact of war for as long as people have been launching projectiles at each other. These pilots are going to be fucking crucified by the media, and probably sacrificed by their CO/government. Reading the top commentary on the video site tells me that already (along with the history of throwing the warrior on the trigger under the bus when something bad happens).

Possibly the worst thing is that those guys have to live their lives out knowing they fired on friendly forces. I can't even begin to fathom the trauma they'll go through, trying to come to terms with that... if they can at all.

I feel for the Pilots, there was a intellegence/communications breakdown somewhere, and the FAC's failed to get the Pilots the correct information. Those Hog drivers have to live with the fact that they killed good guys for the rest of their life.

Ah, missed the date... although I was wondering, since there was a reference there to "Super Tomcats".

That's one hell of a shitty situation.

It says on the site that they attacked without the go ahead from the forward air controller.

they are still responsible for employment of their weapons. fault may lie with different people/agencies/etc, but responsibility rests with those pilots.

    tragic, tragic situation.
