    Can anyone tell me why this renders differently in firefox and IE, which has the problem as IE renders it properly or at least how i want it too look while firefox for once seems to have the problem.

    Also even if i position the left bar using absolute positioning for some reason IE fux up and doesnt recognise the margin that is asigned to the big area.

    The page in question

    Code:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
       "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

    <html>
    <head>
    <style type="text/css">

    #main
    {
    width:500px;
    height:600px;

    margin:100px 0px 0px 150px;
    border:1px dotted black;
    }

    #topleft
    {
    width:100px;
    height:180px;

    margin-top:100px;
    margin-left:48px;

    border-width:1px 0px 1px 1px;
    border-style:dotted;
    border-color:black;

    float:left;
    }

    #bottomleft
    {

    }

    #bottom
    {

    }

    </style>

    </head>

    <body>

    <div id="topleft">
    <ul>
    <li></li>
    <li></li>
    <li></li>
    <li></li>
    </ul>
    </div>
    <div id="main"></div>
    <div id="bottomleft"></div>

    </body>

    </html>

    Im not sure why firefox is doing this, it seems to take the leftsided box and put it on the same level as the main division when the box becomes before it in the flow of the document.

    Thanks in advance

    haha, it's spelled like expert sex change.

    But, i toyed with it, and apparently IE looks at margin of #topleft and puts it 100pixels down from the top of the page, and FF looks at it and puts it 100pixels down from the top of the #main frame.

    doesn't google have a suggestion site? Ide love to tell them to not allow any images to be found in search results for tripod.com images and to keep those damn expertsexchange results out of the engine.

    I thought you can view and ask questions if you register FREE. And if you sign up, one benefit is the ability to search their site.
