Living in central Tokyo right now, I've got a 250cc Yamaha Maxam scooter, for everyday usage around town. However I'm looking at getting a bike for circuit.

    Basically what I'm after:
    250cc max
    Japanese make preferred (cheaper parts)
2 or I guess 4 stroker is fine)
I'm 6'5 :| so this will be lots of fun :)
I'm mechanically minded, so maintenance or ripping it apart is no problem.

Reason for a 250, here in japan, anything 251cc or over, we need to pay registration fees, in which I don't see the point of paying so much every year if I'm only going to use the bike once a week.
250cc & under costs only about $20 a year, thats a ward tax where i live in.

What options have I got, some makes/models would be nice. and I shall go and have a look at them.

    A.

Can you get a plate on a 2 stroke dirt bike? Put some lights, and street tires on it and rip around town. Only downsides are no oil injection and poor milage.

Not really sure thats what youre looking for, I'm just echoing something I wish I could do...

SBandit4: thanks, i'll google the info, and check out some shops.

XR250rdr:as for a dirtbike, i'd love to get one, but for now, I'd love to have something i can use at the circuit. and on expressways.

As long as its got some indicators, brake light, head light, and taco meter(speed) its legal. keep a look out in this thread over the next week or 2. I'll post some of the bikes that roam the streets here soon. its a good laugh.

I'm in Okinawa, and I ride a Honda CB400 Superfour here. All I had to pay was the JCI, roadtax and my yearly insurance. Is it not the same on the mainland?

well you could ride a dirtbike on the expressways if its converted to a motard (street wheels, tires, brakes if you want, etc.) couldn't you? One of those would be f'in awesome on the road.

If you get any of these, bring them on over to the US. Those are super good fun at the tracks!
