Another side note, only eight of 41 European cars and trucks tested by Consumer Reports' editors earned the coveted "recommended" check mark.

They were: BMW 3-Series, Porsche Boxster, Saab 9-3 and 9-5, Volkswagen Passat six-cylinder, Volvo S60, S80 and V70. My car

European bestsellers such as the Audi A4, BMW 5- and 7-Series, Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes-Benz C-, E- and M-Classes, Mini Cooper, Volvo XC90 and VW Golf, Jetta and New Beetle aren't recommended

    The whole story...

I just got the april issue of Consumer report, and the 7 Series is worst than VWs and Dodge as far as reliability goes. But I'm sure the people that buy them don't really care about that. :o

I don't "listen" to what they say... I read it, and I make up my own decision based on what I see. And since I work in the automotive field, I see a lot and its pretty much consistant w/ what CR says. :o

"The average for all vehicles in the survey is 17 problems per 100 vehicles, while Asian models only have 12 problems."

Glad I bought a Honda :bigthumb:

i could care less what they say. i'd rather have the plagued 7 (even though i HATE the 7-series) than a Lexus. Lexus lacks soul and balls. why you would want to buy a tarted up kitchen appliance (toyotas = kitchen appliance, especially in white) is beyond me.

Working at a BMW dealership, I've seen the many problems with the E65 or 7 series. Most of the problems are all software problems though. Very rarely I've seen mechanical problems. If you've ever driven one, no other car of that size, can equal in handling. With the active suspension, you can take turns at about 75 mph without a hint of body roll. The software has been improved upon tremendously with the 04's and new 5 series. We will have to see with the new 6 series coming out, basically it is just a 2 door 5 series.

Exactly. There are always problems when new tech is involved, esp software. I have worked in the software industry for years with some of the top names in the industry and software NEVER works the way it is supposed to, especiallly when it is new. BMW took a gamble with i-Drive and is feeling a little sting because of it but you win some and lose some when you are an innovator. Still, NO Japanese car has the same type of driving dynamics and feel as any German car, the e65 being no exception.

Mark Levinson stereo?? LOL!!!!!! Just kidding.

My interest in European cars isn't for their reliability. Simply put.

So do they have updates for the software to put in the 2003 models to fix the problems like they fix in the 2004's?

And to the thread-starter, my family's 2003 LS430 has had more problems than our one-year old 7 series, so there. :fawk:
