If any of you guys have problems staying lean or losing weight then read this. I'm an insulin resistant former fatty. Your body is always wanting to get back to its former self so it is an everyday battle if you have a naturally slow metabolism and are insulin resistant. We think it's not fair that we have to count grains of rice while our buddy is downing ice cream and can't gain weight. Well, it's the cards you were delt so fucking man up and deal with them. Here are a few tips that will help you when in frustrating times.

    1) If you are not losing weight, then you are eating too much. It's that plain and simple. Period.

    2) Bread, fruit, milk products, and artificial sweeteners are the devil for us. If you can't drop anymore weight then these are the next thing to cut out of your diet. I guarantee that these things make your body hold on to weight.

    3) I have found that an almost zero carb diet works well for us. If you are insulin resistant, carbs have almost zero affect on your energy levels and you can function just fine without them.

    4) Yes, I know this sux but what works best is meat and veggies. That's it, plain and simple.

    5) I have found that glutamine, creatine, bcaa's or anything else that isn't organic makes me hold on to weight.

    6) If you're stuck and can't seem to lose that last 10-20 pounds, cut out all of the above for a few weeks and then introduce them back into your diet slowly after you've lost the desired amount of weight.

    7) We can't go all out on a cheat meal. If we go all out on a cheat meal, then you'll consume 8-10 thousand calories easily. You'll blow the entire week of dieting and cardio on one meal and then take another week to get back down and then repeat. It's a viscious cycle. One thing that works for me is a cheat meal that consists of a steak, plain and dry sweet potatoe, salad, 1 glass of red wine and a protein cookie. That's it.

    8) Yes, this sux. Yes, this is strict. No, this is not fun and it's not socially acceptable. No, you can't eat whatever your friends eat and absolutely no alcohol. IF you have a build and metabolism like mine, then this is the price that you are going to have to pay in order to look the way that you want to look.

Sorry if this bursts anyones bubble, it's just the facts.

I don't know the scientific reasoning, maybe they actually elicit an insulin response. All I know is 2 things, 1) diet soda's make me not lose weight 2) when I cut out all sweeteners, I dropped 6 pounds in one week.

How did you work your carb intake levels when trying to gain leass mass. I find I'm much the same as what you listed above and am about to start a bulking cycle. just keep the g's of carbs moderate at highest?

This thread is about losing weight gaining lean mass. In order to gain lean mass, you will put some fat on, end of story. If I were trying to gain lean mass, I would keep all of my carbs around my training times.

one important thing i learned as well, as i am the same as ray when it comes to being lean and staying lean, eventyually if you stay very lean long enough the skin will thin, the body will harden dramatically and you will be in fact able to eat carbs again and have plenty of cheats. I cheat daily now and remain leaner and vascular(i was never veiny). Also part of this for me was not touching roids for last 2 or more years. Let my body learn itself again

I think I read some literature on this somewhere, that just anything that tastes sweet may illicit an insulin response

Same here. I've cut back quite a bit, and only drink snob beers on Saturdays. I've made that my "cheat" since it's the hardest thing for me to give up.

I used to buy anything that came in a 30 pack, and I would go through that in a few days. :hs:

The only thing I've ever read about diet drinks is that if you drink them, you might over eat to compensate for the calories you're saving on them.

I might try cutting out diet sodas for awhile and see if I notice any changes.

the above tips ray pointed out are largely how i dropped 70 pounds (on the diet side of things, yes I did work out but the diet was a large factor in how rapidly I did it)

I am down 27 pounds since the first of july by following most of what you said. The only difference is that I drink the shit out of diet sodas and occasionaly drink vodka.

people can lose weight by cleaning up their diet and exercising. He's talking about those last few pounds that won't go away. You also prolly don't fall into the same category BDR was in.
