A father paid me to come out to photograph his daughter and her team at a rowing competition in Philadelphia, PA. The more I shoot sports the more I start looking at the 300 and 400mm lenses. The 70-200 with a 1.4x TC doesn't quite have enough reach for good facial shots.

This is my first time shooting rowing so I knew nothing about it. From what I'm told, the crouch position is the 'money' shot.

no idea - the teams ranged from Canada down to Florida so it consisted of school along the east coast.

Definitely soft if they aren't 100% or close crops.

They're 80-100% crops to get the close face shots.

Tell the dad he'll get professional shots next time...if he'll go half on a 400. Throw in free portraits for a year!

He knew from the start that I was using a 70-200 w/ a 1.4x TC. Also, the lane assignments for his daughter's team didn't work in our favor. They were lane 5 out of 6 so they were on the other side of the river. I got some good shots from lane 1-3, though.

    Nice shots!

Even though it doesn't have the reach you wanted, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM is an excellent lens!

AF is fucking instant. Bye bye Tamron (great lens for the money but my ego needs the little red line).

I'm moving this weekend so I'm busy packing (taking a break on OT :) ) but I'll probably have some pics in the next few days.

I heard HIN - AC sucked. A lot of registered cars didn't show up. I could've hit AC after I finished up in Philly but I was tired and didn't feel like wasting $25 on the show.

A question from one of the Nikon Crew. What type of canon lenses come in white? I thought all L lenses did, but apparently I was wrong.

L glass comes in both White and Black depending on the lens. An L lens signature is the red ring around the lens, that's one way you can quickly tell.

    The newer telephoto L lenses come in white, such as the 28-300 f/3.5-5.6L IS, 70-200 f/4 L, 70-200 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS, 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L, 300 f/4L IS, 300 f/2.8L IS, 400 f/2.8L IS, 400 f/5.6L IS, 500 f/4L IS, 600 f/4L IS.

IS is the Canon version of Nikon's VR. I might've missed a lens or two but those are the majority of the white L lenses. The smaller ones are black but it's easier to recognize an L lens by the red line.
