I recently took one of my grandfather's rifles out of storage to inspect it. It's a Mossberg 320k single shot bolt-action rifle.

    1. Next to the model number (320k) it says: 22 S-L-LR
Can anyone tell me what this means? I imagine it has to do with the ammo it takes?

    2. How would I date this rifle? Would contacting Mossberg help?

    3. It looks like the safety (I believe this is what it is? It's the end of the barrel behind the bolt) is fucked up, would this be easy to replace?

    Thanks for any help :wavey:

.22 is the round it takes, and it takes .22s, .22l, and .22lr.

I think you'd have to go by the serial number to date it, but I'll let the other guys answer for sure.

Its a .22 rimfire, it shoots 22 shorts, longs, and long rifle. Contacting Mossberg will help, my dad contacted Remington a few years ago to date my grandfathers 1940s shotgun and they sent an owners manual back along with manufacturing dates.

I don't see where he said he was fooling around with it. He came in here asking questions about the gun that he didn't know which should be encouraged.

Beside, the thread is a month old, if he shot himself it happened a long time ago.

It's all good, at least it wasn't one of the 7 year old threads that keep getting bumped.

And be careful with that, it starts with not knowing how you got in a gun thread, next thing you know you have a whole collection.

first get to know it, and then see if it'll let you take it to dinner.

there really is very little difference between the calibers in good defensive rounds.
