Fog kept rolling in and out, but I managed to catch one of the MANY meteorites we saw that night! We saw so many super bright ones that went across the whole sky and then sort of exploded in a flash

    1. Just to give you an idea of how many stars we could see where we were. Freakin street light made that orange glow though :squint: We needed a bb gun... [IMG]

    2. Caught one! But you can see how the fog made the star trails choppy and OOF looking :hs:

    3. Cool glow from the fog-streetlight interaction, but again, stars weren't as sharp as they should have been.

My metadata got stripped, but I can tell you the first shot was exposed for around 12-15 minutes and the other two were probably 5-8-ish minutes. ISO 200, f/2.8, Nikon D50, Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens

yea, those things were coming from all over the sky! I thought they would mostly be coming from the constellation Leo, but they were pretty random

during a Meteor event such as this one they typically move in a direction away from the radiant (in this case Leo), but depending on the atmospheric entry point they could be anywhere in the sky including coming straight at you which you likely wouldn't even see.

we only saw 4 or 5 really bright ones, but probably saw 10-15 smaller, dimmer guys.... this was over about 1.5-2 hours

Yeah they typically last 3-4 days +/- the main date (which is the peak)

Same here! I think I missed seeing at least 2 due to me fumbling with the camera

Turn off auto noise reduction. It will process much faster.

yea, and auto NR isn't that grand anyways. I'd rather have total control over NR in post

Yeah I did have it on. Leaving it off from now on.

OP, I'm sure you know this, but it's easy to get rid of the orange glow with Curves in Photoshop using the black point eye dropper. Looks better IMO.

At least you caught one! It was cloudy here too but beautiful when they went away:
