#1: Are there any disadvantages to padding the bar when squatting? I found that the bar really started to hurt my shoulders today. What do most of you guys use for padding?
#2: If I can't get up and don't have a spotter what's the best way to dump the weight? :noes:

    1) It apparently makes you a pussy and maybe slightly different bar placement, and I think most guys on here don't use padding.

    2) Use a power rack, set the pins low, if you cant get it back up just dump it on the pins.

I have to reach further back to grab the bar with a pad on so I don't bother with them.

i'd suggest placing the bar lower on your back if your shoulders are hurting

i dont like how the pad rolls around and just makes it feel less stable. try keeping the bar further down next time.

squeeze your shoulder blades back and make a shelf for the bar to sit on. If you don't have said shelf, grow a bigger back.

This guy at my gym has some type of special padding. It clips to the bar and is contoured to sit over his traps and onto his upper back. The way I just described it makes it sound huge, but it's actually very small. I'm sure some of you guys have seen these things before.
