Givin that you paid around the same price for both cars. Comparing $ for$ And wanted a mid 10's and under car that wasnt a time bomb. Which one would get you there the easist/ cheap. Well nothings cheap but you know.....

they both have very high potential. Both great cars.
I personally would chose the 32V 4.6 Cobra though because I have more experience with Ford.

The 98-99 4.6 fords were pretty weak those years. However getting an LS1 into the 10s is nothing hard, or complicated. Heads, cam, intake, will do, or a cam, and a shot of n20 and you're there. Basicly, if you know what you're doing you can get to 10s with around $1500 engine work. The problem with the Z28s however is thier weak 7.5" rear. To get to 10s on it would be nothing short of a miracle (however I ran 11.70s on mine), and you would be wise to switch to a differant rear. Depending on how skilled you are, or who you go to, this will cost you anywere from $500 with a modded 8.5" 10 bolt corperate rear, to $2000 for a nice 12 bolt package. Most people looking to drag race go with the 9" ford rear, and comes in around $1000.

With the 4.6 Ford, you're not looking at any less money there. Basicly you eaither got to run a big time shot of n20, or go forced induction. Either way it's going to cost you at least as much or more to make it as fast as the LS1 F-body.

I myself was always a DOHC modular ford guy but an LS1 fan as well. The Ls1 platform is proven and solid, with minimal work and money you can go low 11s/10s on a set of slicks or Drag radials. cam/intake/long tubes/gears/ls1 edit, if you may/nitrous....got yourself a solid car. Also like he said, the rear ends are known to go, you can upgrade to a 10 or 12 bolt, 12 botls being pricier

well put it this way. The stock crank on the LSx is probably 2nd only to the 2jzgte. There are guys running deep into the 9s on it. There a many guys running 10s on the stock short block with good reliability. However ALL engines are "ticking time bombs" when you're making that much power, and you run them that hard.

if i had to pick between the two, its ls1 all the way. the mustang sounds better but you can go faster for cheaper with the ls1.

98/99 cobras...the slugs out of the 4.6L bunch...and don't forget they have IRS so they are poor launchers at the line.

Well on the other hand....go talk to bob cosby about getting a 99 Cobra down the track :)

I think if you really want a reliable 10 second 99 Cobra...wait...lol...reliable 10 second car?

an Automatic LS1 with converter, heads, cam, gears, lid & filter, Exhaust cutout, and headers will run 10's all motor in optimal weather conditions. Cool air and sunny day

It'll probably take a little giggle juice to put that combo into the ten realm...
