will this be able to run the next/current gen of games (WoW, hl2, Doom 3) at good frame rates at medium-high resolution settings? or should i upgrade to a 256mb card or 9800 pro?

A 9800 Pro is only 50-100 more I think. The 256MB version will substantially increase your price, but a 128MB 9800P will perform nextgen games with decent results. Don't get AIW radeons unless it's features you will use, otherwise it's a great waste.

Some 9800 AIW are priced even more than the next gen cards.

I agree. The Radeon 9800 Pro 128-Bit 128MB will be much more worth your money for upcoming titles. It performs well and it's a great value for its price. I've read that the 256MB versions of Radeons aren't very much worth the money.

As for the 9600XT AIW, if you're not going to use the AIW features, you're better off with a 9800 Pro or a 9600XT (non-AIW), at least. The non-AIW 9600XT performs better (ie. higher clockspeed, etc.), minus the AIW features.

Actually you're wrong, the 9600XT compared to the 9600XT AIW on ATI's website is actually clocked slower than the AIW card.

My mistake. I had the 9600 AIW Pro in mind when I was writing the last post.

Go for the 9600XT AIW or the 9800 Pro, then. If you're not going for the AIW features, stick with the 9800 Pro.
