I test drove a 96 4Runner earlier this week, 3.4 5spd, 192k miles.. I was surprised, the power is pretty snappy, good ground clearance, overall a pretty fun driver. They wanted $5k for it, I know Toyota's have awesome resale, but for that many miles, it seemed steep imo.. Anyway, I am intrigued by them, and I guess I just need some convincing. What all can you tell me about them as far as off roading goes, what to look for, auto vs manual (the manual was nice, not a must though) gas milage? :hsd:

too many miles. I'd be worried about the head gaskets and rear main seal.

    Too much money, man.

Thats what I thought.. I wasn't about to buy it anyway, but it got me considering lower milage models. The dealer told me he just sold a corolla with 300k for $3k... :ugh:

Ask if you can take a mechanic to do a compression tests. Compare to factory recommended specifications etc. Then decide from there. Oh, and ask when the last time the drive train was serviced too
