I'm looking at a 95 GTi VR6 w/ about 100,000 miles on it... Just had a question as to whether or not they are mechanically stable w/ that many miles on them. The car is sexy as hell and seems to be in pretty good condition, but I just don't wanna buy it and have it break down on the way back to Fort Bragg...

The 12v VR6 is pretty reliable, just make sure everything is squared away and it hasn't been driven hard.

Thats just breaking it in. Be sure to ask whether the chains and/or head gasket have been done. You can listen for yourself, if the car has a can of marbles sound at about 1800rpms, question the seller like crazy. Check for little trails of brown on the left side of the block, if there are any, ask about the headgasket. VR's have long ass shift throws, lol, so be ready to row some boats on your way back to fort brag.

Oh yeah, ask about the Heater Core. Big problem, but if you're lucky (like me), you can get VW to replace it for free. I got mine done on my 12v Passat with 135k miles on it.

Should be fine assuming headgasket has been done.

The 12v motors that went into the A3 series was pretty stout. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one.
