A&P 9 months in to photography... I finally realize what I hate

I absolutely can't stand taking pictures of people. I have no problem taking a picture of someone in front of something cool, like a landscape or something in a museum. That can be ok.

But if someone wants pictures of themselves... as in Portraits or something. Holy shit kill me.

How do you guys do it? People are so boring in my opinion.

Next to wildlife, people are the hardest subject to photograph. I would rather shoot landscapes myself but I make more money taking pics of people.

Maybe you need to get a little closer when you take portraits. Try using a 50mm.

i feel that it takes the fun out of what i like about photography

if i'm outside doing my thing and taking pictures, i'm enjoying myself.

i mainly made this thread cuz my dumb gf decides to do the following scenario

"hey if i get this lingerie will you shoot me in it?"
    ummmm ok
"ok i got it in. i need to submit like 20 pictures wearing each thing so the company can use it as a promo"

    :ugh::ugh:

first of all - i suck at photography
secondly - now i "have" to take pictures of her. like 100 pics. and try to make them not suck.

uggh what a waste of time.

btw this isn't a troll thread. you guys might think "oh the horror of taking pictures of your gf in lingerie"

but i legitimately find it boring. i tried it before this "have to" scenario and i hated it.

You get to take pictures of a model wearing lingerie and then have sex with the model after. Win win.

I think it all depends on your style and taste...I love taking pictures of people more than anything. While I like and enjoy viewing and pathetically trying to shoot landscapes and objects, I love how people are so unique and so different and they appeal to me more than anything else I could photograph.

I think you hate it because it is hard, not because "people are boring". Getting intimate with the subject is very difficult.

Annie Leibovitz talked about this in her book. She suggested starting off with really close family and friends and then branching out from there.

I just started shooting people and I love it so far! I think a lot of the fun is being in the studio and trying to make the lighting just right or try different lighting setups. Yes, I do think general portraits are boring like senior photos but fashion photography etc... is awesome creating weird contortions and poses and then when you get one that looks dynamic and awesome it is really fulfilling. I dunno, I dont have much experience in it but think its fun :dunno:

Wildlife is 10000 times easier for me than it is for me to tell someone how to pose. With wildlife you don't have to say "ok now make a fist and place it under your chin"

    I just got fired.

But as for the topic at hand, I guess I'm the exact opposite. People are my favorite subject. And while I don't really like to shoot strangers, I really enjoy taking photos at events and gatherings with my friends. Objects and landscapes bore me to death.. but I can appreciate that some people are really into it.

To me, most photos without something live in them seem to be lacking interesting subject matter.

you hate shooting people because it's hard, awkward, and you're a sarcastic sonofabitch like me.

It took me YEARS to get into shooting people. For a while, I would have rather given up photography all together than shoot a single portrait...

You're gonna have to force yourself to get over it sooner or later...
