Because of the loss of www.zing.com I'm gonna have to attach all these images.

Anyway, this is my car, I'm sure a few of you have seen it once or twice already, some of you in person.

She's up to 136k on the ticker and still pulling strong, Mazda remanufactured engine was installed by previous owner at ~100k. I'm still not sure what he fucked up on the car to cause the engine to die so early because n/a rotaries typically last ~200k if treated properly. My last RX-7, a '90 GTU (n/a) made it to 180k on the original engine.

The only performance upgrades consist of a K&N style filter from Bonez that replaces the stock airbox, a Racing Beat 50 mm cat-back, a Mazdatrix strut tower bar, a Momo steering wheel, and a home-made hacksaw shortshifter.

I have modified the intake system so as to bypass the water thermovalve on the throttle-body. Basically this system runs water from the radiator to a thermostat on the throttle body which adjusts an overly complicated set of linkages, cams, and rollers which all effect the idle. If one piece is misadjusted the idle goes to shit. My modification was more of a bandaid than a permanent fix, all I did was disconnect a spring from the linkage that holds the fast idle cam and tied it back with a twist tie so it wouldn't get in the way. The reason I did this was because for some reason the thermovalve is not getting enough water pop all the way out, which means that I'm always at a cold idle situation which is anywhere between 1500 and 3000 RPM's. When I bought the car the TPS was grossly misadjusted and it's impossible to get a proper TPS reading unless the thermovavle is in a hot idle state, which it could not achieve. I suppose I could have torn the intake down and figured out where the water blockage is, but I'm lazy and I don't like the fast idle on cold startup anyway. Problem solved, I'm happy.

Shit that needs fixing, brace yourself...

2nd gear syncros on their last leg, tranny rebuild is in order.

Main cat is fried, I'll probably fix that with a race pipe. *loud* Should see a very nice power gain though.

Bump steer, methinks the tie rod ends are shot.

Electrical gremlin that causes the interior lights to flicker out every once in a while. It only seems to do this when the engine is cold, so I have no idea what the deal is.

    Top needs to be replaced.

    Tires are bald.

BAC valve is shot, so when I turn on my A/C or use power steering with the car sitting at idle the idle drops almost low enough to die.

    I think that's it.

The car still runs and drives like a beauty. When I get all of the mechanical bugs out it'll fell like new again. The engine is very strong and has many many miles left in it.

    Anyway, here she is...

    Thank you. :big grin:

I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with her yet. I've got three options.

    1. Keep the convertible, and buy a sport bike.
    2. Sell the convertible, buy an '93-'95 RX-7.
    3. Keep convertible and save for an RX-8.

They let you drag race with the top down? What state are you in?

Here in PA or NJ, the ttops, hardtop, or convertible top has to be up at the NHRA sanctioned tracks.

I'm in Alabama. :) They make you sign a waiver at the track if you're there to race so if you wreck your car or hurt yourself the track isn't liable. This was also on "test and tune" night, I'm not sure if there are any more extensive rules for tournaments and bracket racing and such.
