3Ghz dual Quad Core option for $1500.

I think this is nothing more than a precursor to a real upgrade some time between NAB and July.

No, 16 cores are a way off yet. There are price drops that put quad core chips around the same price as dual core chips, new graphics cards (Apple have been linked with a special R600 graphics card) and a new workstation platform from Intel. Not to mention things like blu-ray, 1TB hard drives, Leopard. All comming in the next 3 months.

I thought you meant processor upgrades.

Well, with my student discount I already save a big chunk on the 8-core processor upgrade alone, and as far as the other three, I don't need blu-ray, 1TB drives, or leopard.

The only one I do need is leopard, and I'll be buying it for my MBP also.

8-core mac pro here i come!

You might want to read up on dual clovertown machines before splashing the cash though, there are issues with bottlenecks on the current chipset that shouldn't be present on the new one.
